Contents Page

I have created a contents page for my music magazine that i am happy with, i don't know if this will be the final outcome or if i will edit it slightly to get a better finish.

So far this is what i have created:

I decided to stick with a dark background as i have done this on my front cover, i thought that by continuing this theme i get a better overall image for my magazine.
If i were to edit it, i would add more pictures because at the moment i only have two, i could place them around text to create a better understanding of what was going to feature throughout my magazine. This would also create more of an eye catching contents page, and effectivley would draw in more people.

Front Cover Experiments

I decided to experiment in photoshop with some of my photos, i had two photos in mind for my front cover but couldn't decide on which one to use. By creating a mock front cover for both photos i was able to get a clear picture of what each one would look like.

Here is my first one:

I have decided not to use this one as the image is placed too far to the left, and i would like my collumn inch to be down the left hand side. If i were to keep this image i would have to place a lot of writing over it and cover up the majority of it, this would make it look a lot less eye catching.

Here is my second one:

This is the image and layou that i have decided to use. I am using this one as the image is based on the left hand side. This ensures that i have enough room to have a collum edge down the left hand side and also be able to see the picture still.

Front Cover: First Draft

To get a rough idea of what i would like my front cover to look like, i decided to create a first draft. This will help me decide what i would like to feature on my front cover and how i would like the layout to appear.

Front Cover analysis

Here is a copy of an abalysis that i created, i studied this 'Kerrang!' front cover to help me get some ideas for my own front cover. i studied all aspects of it and looked at all the technical terms that have gone into making this front cover. This analysis helped me as i gave me a strong idea on how to model my own front cover for my music magazine.

Front Cover Research

I have decided to look at a few front covers from music magazines that tie in with my genre of music. This will help me get a rough idea as to what i could possibly place on my front cover. I will look at how they have been set out and how effective this is.

The first front cover that i amgoing to look at is one by 'Kerrang' magazine. Kerrang is a rock/metal magazine and concentrates on the same aspects of music as i hope to.

We can see that on this front cover there is a lot gong on. However it is clear to see that there is one main focus on the front cover and that is the band 'Panic! at the disco' we know this because their picture takes up the majority of the front cover also the name of the band is in a very large eye catching font. This cover also offers 'FREE, live posters' due to the fact that this text is surrounded by red it really ecomes eye-catching.

The second magazine front cover that i am going to analyse comes from them agazine 'The Big Cheese' this magazine looks a lot more at punk/metal bands, it is a much larger magazine and has a lot more variety inside.

Just by looking at the front cover we get a clear feeling as to what this magazine would be like to read, on the front cover there is a quote from the band saying 'we don't give a f**k" this shows us that the magazine is not affraid to let the band that they are interviewing say whatever they want. The bold and bright colours on the front of this magazine are in deep contrast to th genres of music that feature in it.

The final front cover i am going to look at comes from a music magazine called NME. This magazine has a wide variety of indie/rock/electro bands in it. This is steering away from my genre a bit but i do still believe that it could be linked.

This front cover is a lot appears to be a bit calmer than the other two, the yellows and reds are used throughout the front cover, they are the two sugnificant colours that also feature in the magazine a lot. The title is always the same and always appears in the exact same place, this gives the magazine a sense of identity. I like the angle of the photograph that is on the front cover, it creates a different dimension to the front cover.

Practise Article

During my media studies lesson me and two other group members created a mock up of a magazine article. We decided to go for a bit of humour in our interview as we thought this would make it more interesting to read. Our interview was conducted question by question. We got responses from one member of the band.

This is what our article turned out like. We used publisher to create this but i will use photoshop. Due to the fact that the background is dark we were able tojust place white text over the top of the photo.

Testing Fonts

I have decided that i will call my music magazine 'Noise' using the website www.dafont.com i will experiment with some different font styles, this will then help me decide on a final font for my title.

Font One:

I like this font as it is rough and looks destroyed. It is loud and would grab peoples attention.

Font Two:

This font doesn't represent the genre of my magazine as well as the other one but i do believe it could still resemble the magazine. Overall i like this one the best.

Font Three:

This font would stand out a lot as it is big and bold. It would be eye catching and draw attention. However i don't think i will use this font as it does will not suit the magazine i am going to create.

Kerrang article essay

Music Photography

Here are a selection of music photographs that i have gathered whilst out at gigs. I will use a majority of these photos for my magazine, i could include them on my front cover, contents page and maybe even main article

This photo would be good to use for a front cover shot as it has a dark, plain background. This would then make it easy to place text on top of it. I could also use this for the double page article as it shows the band in action and would be a good representation of them.

I love the bright colours in this photo, they make it stand out, this would be good to use on the front page to illustrate what people could expect to see feature in the magazine.

The background in this photo is very busy and has a lot going on. I could edit this in photoshop and cut out the lead singer, i could then use the singer on my contents page. I could also then bleed the singer out of the page to create a more dynamic look to my page.

This photo would be good for the main article. It shows all four members of the band and has a plain, dark background, this would be useful as i could then plave text over it.
